The OtherSide

27 Mar

Friday was my 26th birthday. To celebrate I had a delicious dinner at Antico Forno in the North End. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures but I got a delicious dish made with fusilli pasta, eggplant, zucchini, tomato sauce and goat cheese. I highly recommend it if you are ever in the area. To continue the celebrations I went to one of my favorite vegetarian friendly restaurants called the The OtherSide.

The OtherSide is located on Newbury Street and has many vegetarian and vegan options as well as meat options. This makes it a perfect place to go if you are a vegetarian and have many meat lovers in your life!

We started with The OtherSide Nachos described as tortilla chips topped with melted cheddar, jalapeños, our vegetarian chili and salsa. The vegetarian chili is my favorite thing on the menu and it’s made with organic beans, tomatoes, corn and bulgur wheat. (Source)

I love these nachos because they aren’t smothered in cheese and sour cream. I do wish that they had more veggies and salsa on them, but the chili makes up for that. For my meal I went with the vegan BLT made with tempeh bacon, lettuce, tomato, vegan mayo on multi grain bread. I had the 1/2 and 1/2 combo and decided on 1/2 of a simple salad because I knew I’d be pretty stuffed from the nachos.

Sorry for the poor quality picture, but I dove right in! I have had this sandwich before and I think it is SO good! The tempeh bacon that they use tastes so good and I really need to try and make it some time. The next time I go I need to pick something else though… I always get the BLT or the chili in some form and there are so many other options on the menu that I am dying to try. This did hit the spot for me though!

My friend got the turkey club on french bread and reported that it was delicious. This picture doesn’t also really do it much justice, but the sandwich was huge!

Another successful meal from The OtherSide. I really wish that Boston had more vegetarian friendly restaurant like The OtherSide.

When you go out to eat do you always pick the same thing or do you like to branch out? I always pick the same thing, I need to branch out more!

Weekend Recap and a Cute Dinner Date

13 Sep

Hello! How was everyone’s weekend? Mine was a lot of fun and was very busy!

Friday started off with a fun wine tasting at Boston Wine Exchange. It was my first time there and they were very nice and friendly. I had been wanting to stop by for a while because they do 5pm tastings a lot on Fridays, and it just so happens to be right by my work!

I tasted a prosecco, chardonnay and some red wine. I am much more a fan of white wine! After the tasting my friend and I were looking for somewhere to have a nice Friday night cocktail! I remembered that I had been wanting to try Rumba for quite a while so we walked on over there.

Here I am drinking a Between The Sheets martini. I’m pretty sure I was drunk after a sip. This drink was VERY strong. Much too strong for me but I managed to take it back like a champ. Rumba is nothing what I expected. I walked by it one day with a coworker, I am not sure if she had been there before but she made it sound better than it was. Basically Rumba is just a hotel bar with expensive drinks. I wouldn’t go back. Maybe it’s more fun in the summer?

My mom came down on Saturday to help me get my apartment finished and we went to ikea and went shopping at home goods, target, TJ maxx, etc. I  don’t get the ikea hype AT ALL. That place is craziness. I got a few deals on a framed picture and some vases but besides that I really don’t like the store. I bought a table there a few weeks ago, but accidentally got the wrong color! Since I don’t have a car I had to wait for my mom to bring me to get a new one. I like my table, but it sucked putting it together and it was probably the easiest thing in the store to put together.

Cute right? I have a red theme in my kitchen. I’ll show you my apartment soon before I mess it all up.

Here’s my veggie-rific dinner

I made kale chips, roasted asparagus and corn on the cob. I was feeling frisky trying some vegetables i don’t buy on a weekly basis, but really the only part of this meal I enjoyed was my beloved corn on the cob.

My dinner date

I am a crazy cat lady.. it’s the truth. For once, my apartment doesn’t face a building so my cats really like sitting in the windows. When I get off a stop early I always walk by and talk to my cats, in the window, on the third floor, I’m pretty sure my neighbors and the people at the gas station next door think I am nuts. I get a kick out of it because Lilo (pictured above!) always meows back to me. It’s SO cute!

I kept dinner a bit light because I spent a lot of the weekend overindulging and have a delicious healthy dessert of banana soft serve and a whole wheat brownie waiting for me.

What did you do this weekend?
