About

Thanks for stopping by my slice of life :) I am Ashleigh and I’m a 25 year old girl living in Boston with my two cute cats. In my free time I really enjoy reading healthy living, food and recipe blogs. I love to cook healthy recipes and get a ton of ideas from these blogs. After reading for years, I decided to start my own last year. I started by creating weight watchers recipes and posting them on my blog. Eventually I stopped weight watchers and I wanted to keep posting recipes so I created Ashleigh’s Slice. Here I share delicious recipes, fun workouts I am doing, goals that I have, restaurant reviews, fun things to do and anything else I want to share!

Weight Loss

When I graduate high school and went onto college I weighed quite a bit. I had always been heavy growing up. I was active, I played sports, but I really just ate too much and too often. In college it got worse because I was surrounded by delicious foods like bagels, pizza, and had a crazy supply of ramen!

This is what I looked like at the end of freshman year. Eventually I decided that I wanted to lose weight and I started going to my school’s awesome fitness center. I worked out all of the time. Seriously. Sometimes on weekends I would spend over 3 hours at the gym. I don’t really remember what I was eating but I doubt it was all that healthy. I know I wasn’t eating enough and working out too much but I lost about 60 pounds. Since I wasn’t tracking it, I don’t remember how fast it came off but I’d say 5 months or so.

I look so different! I was able to maintain my weight loss for about a year with healthy eating and exercise, but eventually I started to gain weight again. Once I graduated college I moved out with some friends and a lot of the unhealthy habits I formed as a freshman in college came back as a freshman in life! I was eating a lot of food and drinking a lot. I would go out to dinner all of the time and didn’t want to waste food because I paid with it with my hard earned money! I also was drinking far too often and far too much. I’d eat super healthy all day.. oats for breakfast, salad for lunch, wheat pasta and veggies for dinner, then drink a ton of wine and usually end up eating a second dinner. I was going to the gym during this time but I just wasn’t working hard enough. Usually 20 minutes here and there. Eventually I gained about 40 pounds back.

Over the summer of 2009 I stopped going to the gym for a few months. I was still eating and drinking a lot and I just felt really gross by the end of the summer. I didn’t like the way my clothes fit. My body felt swollen some days, and I decided I needed to do something about it and fast! I talked to my mom about it and decided to join weight watchers in September of 2009. I really liked weight watchers for a bunch of reasons. I liked how they focused on whole foods and portion control. Sure they tried to sell me their 100 calorie bars filled with junk, but that’s just they roll. It’s up to you make the best decisions! I also really liked the support that I got from my leader and other people in the meetings. However, eventually I stopped losing weight. When you go to weight watchers for 2 months and don’t lose any weight, you start to get defeated and feel like you are wasting money… or at least I did! So I decided to cancel my membership and try and lose weight on my own. I haven’t been very successful, but I have kept the 40 pounds that I lost off since May. I have gotten into a routine where I workout 5 days a week.

I run, I spin, I zumba, I walk, I even signed up for a 10k. I am much healthier than I was a few years ago and I am making strides in the right direction every day. Healthy living has become my passion and I want to share it with everyone!! I love to share new health products I find. I love getting people motivated to lose weight. I love to cook healthy meals. I love vegetables. I love the way it feels to be getting healthier every day!

I hope you stick around to read more about my life!

Somehow, even though I have been reading your blog for a little while now, I completely had missed your about page. I just saw your picture on the main page and assumed you had always been skinny and beautiful!! Wow…that is a transformation to say the least…you look fantastic! Definitely feel like we have even more in common now.

Congratulations on making positive lifestyle changes. It would have been so easy for you to give up after gaining weight back. What makes you so inspiring is you just went right back to what worked. It’s a day by day choice, a healthy lifestyle is one I LOVE.
