I can’t make a decision to save my life! I am the most indecisive person ever! As I mentioned in my post about getting more exercise, I bought a buywithme for a new to me gym, the Boston Sports Club. They have them in NYC and DC so some of you may be familiar with them. There are two very close to my work and one only 5 minutes from my apartment. They offer many classes including zumba, spin and weight lifting classes.
The only downside is that it’s $74 per month. I am no stranger to paying $$ for a gym, at one point I was paying $92 per month, but I was hoping that with moving out of the city I would be able to pay less. My initial plan was to workout at the BSC for 30 days and then get a free trial at another gym in the town I live in. I haven’t been to that gym yet but their website says they offer classes and I have heard that it’s only $20 per month.
I have realized how awesome it is to be able to work out on your lunch break though! You don’t have to wake up early and when you get home from work you don’t have to worry about working out. I can get a solid 45 minute workout while watching MTV. My goal is to get 5 days a week in and since I work 5 days a week it’s so easy to just walk over on my lunch break. I have to decide to today (of course!) because they are running at 24 hour no enrollment fee sale. The fee is usually $150. What’s a girl to do?! If you belong to BSC do you like it? Any complaints?

I belong to BSC and I have to say a lot of it is because of how convenient it is! It gives me the option to go near work or near home so there’s really no excuse not to go. And like you said, the ability to get a workout in during lunch is ideal! I use it a ton for spin classes and I used to go to one of their weekly yoga classes (I need to get back into yoga).
For me the spin/pool/class options plus the convenience make it worth the $$$. (Which is still cheaper than so many gyms downtown!)
I think I know the $20 gym you are talking about and that is where I go. The classes fill up pretty quickly but its close to the house and I don’t feel like I have to take out a loan to go there. Plus, you can take a guest with you every single time you go.
I used to belong to Healthworks but it just wasn’t worth that much money every single month.
I would love to belong to the BSC in Watertown (pool!), but I can’t justify that price after paying the $20 a month.
I’m not a BSC member, but it was on my short-list for gyms in the city once I decided I was going to pony up the money for convenience. My best advice is to really think about which gym you are going to make the most use of. I had a $20/mo membership that I used to be willing to make the 45 minute round-trip drive to, but once I moved to where the street parking is like a lottery every night, I stopped going except for weekends because I couldn’t deal with it anymore. I did this for A YEAR before I realized that it was costing me $8/visit because I never went… and then joined a gym near my work. Yes, I pay $70, but for the frequency I now go, I pay a little over $3 per visit and my waistline is reaping the benefits… plus now I get classes, towel service and way nicer locker rooms and equipment.
I don’t belong to a BSC but I am so jealous you can work out during your lunch break! I say go for it, especially for the convenience. Good luck!
I woud go to the $20 gym and save some money!
